Admission Essay Requirements

The University encourages students to tell their stories in the form of an essay. There are a range of essay options provided but while responsible, it is essential that the students remain authentic and draft a response that explain why they wish to pursue the given course. There are usually two main categories offered, for courses like MBA.

1. Normal Essay –

Here the student has to tell in 500 words what matters to him, and his experiences from the past to show why they matter to him and how it will help him to contribute during his MBA program. As is expected, you will be tempted to portray yourself in a positive light but the rule of the thumb is not to overdo it, lest you be carried away and find yourself as having put false or sensationalized information.

2. Video Essay –

The student has to prepare a one minute video and upload it on an accessible website like Youtube, Tudouor any other and submit the video URL on the online application. Then he has to introduce himself to the cohort of the future Georgetown MBA.

However, if you are applying for admission after a rejection, then the University would keep a separate essay submission for you. This would be based on what changes you have undergone since your last attempt to apply, that makes you a worthier candidate.

Frequently given Essay Topics

Here are some of the topics that are frequently asked.

· Write about a time when you challenged an idea or position, and whether you would take that same position again?

· If you have an identity or interest that you feel is essential to your application, tell us about it.

· Talk about an event or experience that turned you into an adult, whether in your community or family.

Essay prompts to put you on the Right Path

· Recount a story that demonstrates your character or helped shape it.

· Tell about a time when a meaningful contribution was made for others. Discuss the challenges and rewards of the contribution.

· Tell about a time when long cherished belief was challenged.

These essays that the college demands are meant to serve as your personal statement. A major requirement that you have to accomplish through your essay is answering the question of what makes you a desirable candidate.

Georgetown University - An Outstanding Place to go to College
Having graduated from Georgetown University in 2011 with a BA in English and then continuing on in Georgetown's School of Continuing Studies to get my Master's Degree in Sports Industry Management, I cannot imagine having spent a better five years of my life anywhere else. Georgetown University is one of the very few school's in the country that offers a little bit of everything. Let's begin with it's location. Being not only in the Nation's capital, but being in what many would call the best part of Washington DC, Georgetown University's location is second to none. Immersed in liveliness that M street offers with amazing restaurants, bars and shops while overlooking the scenic Potomac River is second to none. It's prestige and reputation is unparalleled. Consistently in the top 20 in Princeton Review, Georgetown is one of the most competitive schools to get into in the country.
