Admission Essay requirements

The first-year essay for the application for 2016 will be new:

Rutgers requires that you provide a short essay that is your original work. Please reflect on what you consider to be an important personal experience related to your talents, interests, or commitments. Using this experience, please tell us what you learned about yourself. How will this experience prepare you for success at Rutgers?

We recommend that you:

  1. Compose and edit your essay as a separate document, making certain that it does not exceed 3,800 characters in length, including spaces.

  2. Copy and paste it into the essay box provided on the application.

For postgraduate studies, you have to prepare the personal stetement:

In general, a personal statement is a 500 word essay on why you are interested in applying to your program. Your program may have more specific requirements for what your personal statement should contain.
