SCU stays with you
I think about my time at Santa Clara often. I didn’t know what kind of college experience to expect (who does?). I knew it as a pretty campus with a Jesuit mission and that my uncle had gotten kicked out back in the 1960’s for probably having way too much fun. SCU introduced me to the value I now place on: Small class sizes and personal relationships with professors. Social justice (I had no idea what this meant or looked like in practice until seeing the impact that SCCAP has on students and the community). Ethical decision-making (The Markkula Center opened while I was a student and if you want to get students’ attention…open up a new building and start holding conversations around campus). Lifelong friendships. Self-awareness. The journey of finding your place in the global family (even though I “only” went to DC for a semester, I loved seeing my friends’ lives change through study abroad opportunities).
